Who Me? Sew???

Who Me? Sew??? Yes, You! Sewing is easier than you think! While having prior sewing experience will certainly make sewing your own nursing wardrobe a little bit easier, if you are a beginner, there is no better time to start than now! Lots of moms have taught themselves how to sew while using our patterns! If you think you might like to try, here are a few tips to help get you started!

  1. Sewing is just like putting together a puzzle. It really is easy! You just need to take it one step at a time and you need to look and analyze the pieces as you go along! There are a few basic principles to learn, but if you take your time and ask questions when you don't understand something, you can teach yourself what to do!

  2. Buy some of our patterns and try it! Consider each of our patterns a "home-study" sewing lesson! When you finish one, try another. Build on what you have already learned! Read the pattern instructions before you begin. Read slowly and look at the illustrations. If something is confusing, read it again. Relax and think it through. If there is any technique mentioned in the sewing guide you don't quite understand, look it up in your reference book or ask an experienced seamstress to show you that particular technique. Most people goof up because they just "plow ahead" without checking the instructions. We really work hard to make our instructions clear and easy to follow so that you will have success with our patterns. Please take advantage of the work we have done to help you do a good job on your outfit.

  3. A basic sewing reference book is a great investment! There are many companies (Readers Digest, Vogue, etc.) that write these books and they are all excellent! If there is a sewing term or a technique you don't understand, you can just look it up and you'll find the answer...usually with lots of illustrations to boot! I use my reference book constantly and there has never been a sewing question it didn't answer. Check your local library, bookstore, or look up books on the internet.

  4. This is the most important step! Before you start, tell yourself that you can do it! One of the most important steps to succeeding is to tell yourself that you can succeed! Sewing is an immensely pleasurable hobby for millions of women and just about the only thing that separates those that do and those that "think they can't" is just jumping in and doing it! You can do it! Just think how happy you will be once you have created your own designer original!
