This is the picture taken as we were leaving my daughter's wedding. Brad and Mariah were a lovely couple. I was just wearing a blouse and skirt, but my 12 year old daughter Lauren was wearing a simple dress fashioned from NC#302. This pattern creates a charmingly simple dress that is appropriate for all body shapes and sizes. I was happy to find something that was appropriate for a 12 year old. Most of the dresses in the stores were sleeveless and quite racy.

I used this pattern two years earlier to create a formal black dress for my daughter’s piano recital. It was floor length and very formal with both sides open to the knees. I added a wide “obi”sash for the waist and she looked great at the recital. This fabric was a black slinky with a few sparkles on it. I purchased it at fabric.com for about $6.00 per yard. The total cost of the black dress was about $12.00. I thought about some of the other mom’s spending hundreds of dollars on formal dresses and that was a reward in itself
