| NC#302 - Sheer scarf instructions
Cut a rectangular piece of fabric 5" x 72" (2 yards) long. You can cut this along one edge of the fabric with the straight of grain following the long edge of the scarf so it won't waste a lot of fabric. Narrowly hem the entire outside edge of this piece of fabric with either a hand rolled hem or with a sewing machine or serger. We set our serger on a "rolled" hem stitch for a very small hem. Read your serger instruction manual for more details. You may shorten the stitch length slightly and use wooly nylon thread in the loopers for a full pretty stitch, but this isn't necessary. Regular thread will work well also. If using a serger, we rounded the corners slightly so that it wasn't necessary to clip threads and start a new seam, but you can also have squared edges if desired. Use the scarf to wrap around your neck as pictured on our website. It also makes a nice shoulder accent piece and can be worn as the scarf in "Titanic".... very pretty blowing in the wind. For a shoulder wrap, you may wan to add extra width - up to 12 inches - instead of making the scarf narrow. Have fun and be creative! You can use this creative accent with any of our patterns. |
